Mrs. Joyce Jeyaraj born on 4th December 1944, passed away on 9th January 2014. A renowned teacher of humanities and English language in state run schools in Tamilnadu, India. She had her early education in Sholinghur and Ranipet. She did her undergraduate in Women’s Christian College, Chennai. She trained as graduate teacher in NKT College of education, Triplicane, Chennai. She married Job Jeyaraj on 5th June, 1967. After marriage acquired post graduate degree in history and education. She raised her nephews and niece. She made rich investment in the children she raised. She accompanied her husband to Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, England, Netherlands, Germany and U.S.A. She specialised in Christian education and Church discipleship. In 1996, some unknown bug caused scleroderma and a team of doctors in Apollo Hospitals opined she would only live for 6 months. For 18 long years she lived fighting the disease with the help of her team of doctors at Apollo.

She was a precious daughter, affectionate mother, devoted wife and a spiritual woman. She always had a special place in her heart for children from socially and economically handicapped families. A big chunk of her income was set apart for their education. She established a trust by name Barnaby-Dorcas Trust to support the under-privileged children. An excellent cook and her hospitality were matchless. She had a wide circle of friends’ in spite of her illness till the very end. Always in touch with children, friends and family encouraging and sharing love. Jesus was first, others were next and she placed herself the last. Thousands poured in to pay floral tributes and the mortal remains stay interred in Kilpauk Garden. She lives in the minds and hearts of friends, family, students whom she taught and the grandchildren she adored.
